Limited editions....

A while ago, while digging through my stash, I happened upon a yard of Oodles of Doodles by Ricky Tims. I always thought that this fabric required a special project. And I found the perfect project for it. First, I made this for me.....

It holds my colored pencils...

And then I noticed that I had some OOD fabric left. After I posted my creation I got all kinds of great comments, so I set out and made another one, slightly smaller to hold sharpie markers. That one is now in the hands of the very creative Gene Black..

And finally there is this one... Slightly different than the one Gene has, but still just as cool... I used a special stitch on the tie.... Hearts! Why hearts? Because my machine doesn't have a ladybug stitch. This one here is going on a trip East across the Mighty Mississippi River. It will spend the rest of its days holding the Sharpie markers of someone who is just as talented as Gene and who currently has her markers in a zippered pouch.

Out of a yard of fabric I was able to make 3 very unique items, thus the limited edition.

I have also created another one for seam rippers out of Frog fabric (get it?? Rip It! Rip It!), but we'll have to wait until Tonya posts about it so you can see hers.

Same location as of January 23... The yard stick reads 8 inches of snow in the yard. And no, thats not a drift.

It's amazing what can be done in 2 minutes.... This sketch was one of those things, just 2 minutes. Thats all. No more. No less.

My friend Christina over at icandy.... took this picture from her home. It is the East entrance to the Atchison County Kansas courthouse after a snow storm.

This is my 2 minute version....

not much detail, but you can still pick out some important details. I'm going to resketch this with more detail and throw in some color as well.

It's been a while....

Greetings from the frozen Midwest. I know it's been a few days since my last post but rest assured that I am very much alive and well (maybe just a bit frozen). I've been busy too!! We got back 3 quilts we sent to a friend for long arm machine practice, and I have to say that given that shes NEVER used a long arm machine before she did a great FREEHAND job!!!

I REALLY love the way she quilted the fish quilt, it looks like waves!!!

After a year break from my pencils, I've decided now is a good time to get back into drawing. So tonight, just a few short minutes ago in fact, I created this.....

My freshly resharpened colored pencils!!!! The fabric for the back and inside are from Ricky Tims Oodles of Doodles line (fitting don'tcha think??). The dark pocket is from the Nikki line by Pat Sloan.

We got these fabrics from the St. Joseph (Mo.) Sewing Center. We were looking for backing fabric for a couple of quilts and possibly a few more pillowcases. We even got a discount on the sale price. It pays to have a shop owner in your local guild!!

And on a return trip to the St. Joseph Sewing Center, to pick up a bag of projects we left there over the weekend, these mysteriously found there way into our project bag. There are 9 different prints with at least 3 yards each, most of them are 5 plus yards. Thanks Lana! This donation will go a long way to provide kids quilts to those who need them!

Buster my Accuquilt GO! cutter even did a short demo at SJSC.. He really likes the owners and staff there!! They feed him!

These bright fabrics came from Quilters Quarters in Leavenworth Kansas. We purchased 7 yards of fabric and got 7 free!! Quilters love freebies!!

My current project

This is an EQ6 rendering of my current project. The outer blocks are 12 inches finished the inner block that makes the big star will measure 24 inches. I posted this last night on facebook and changed the placment of a few blocks (orange in the corners). I think it looks better this way.

These blocks were cut with an Accuquilt GO! The dies used were the chisels, 3 inch finished triangle, the 6 inch finished square and the 6 inch finished triangle. You'll remember from my last post that I had friends cut my triangles..If you can guess what arrived on my doorstep today (without my knowledge!) I'll let you stay up late Friday night.

Here's my original design, I didn't like the way the orange blocks played with the center block so I sent them to the corners.

I've been busy

Hi! Remember me? I know you thought I fell off the face of the blogger world but rest assured I am very much alive and well.

I've been working on a project that came from the brain of my friend Gene. He came up with a pattern using the Accuquilt GO! chisel and 3 inch finished triangle to make a variation on the friendship star.

Now keep in mind I have the chisel die, not the 3 inch triangle die... How'd I manage to cut my triangles?? Easy....My friend Judy Danz and I were part of SewCalGal's Accuquilt GO! Fabric swap. And Judy was kind enough to cut them for me... BUT... I ran out of triangles... I've managed to get 6 blocks done and am hoping for another 6 to 10 blocks to make a quilt. So, being the resourceful guy I am, I went to the creator of the pattern and Gene has agreed to cut more triangles for me... Maybe Santa will be nice and put tthe triangle die in my stocking this year.

2 weeks...

I've officially had my Accuquilt GO! fabric cutter for about 2 weeks now. I must say that Buster and I are getting along VERY well. I've heard no complaints from him even when I sneak a 7th layer of fabric under the cutting mat. Even before I was lucky enough to win my GO!, my wife found some dies at 1/2 price. One of the dies allows you to make this cute quilt. Accuquilt calls it the GO! baa baa baby quilt. I call it, too damned cute! If you enjoy appliqué, I think you'd enjoy this quilt. Whats nice about the GO! is you can iron your Mistyfuse or whatever you use onto the fabric BEFORE you cut it, that way after you run the fabric through the cutter its ready to be ironed onto the main fabric.

Pardon the picture, it was taken with my cell phone as my digital camera is on its trip to the East Coast for repairs.. Seems its known to shock people if they touch the metal accent piece, right dear?


If you decide that this quilt is one you'd like to try, I'd suggest constructing it in stages, sky, ground and fence. That way when you're sewing down the appliqué pieces, you're not having to deal with a monster piece of fabric.. If you look at my quilt and the pattern from Accuquilt, you'll notice my sheep are moved in order to avoid dealing with huge amounts of fabric while stitching down the fused pieces.


If you'd like to make this quilt and don't have the cutter and/or die, let me know. I'd be more than happy to cut it for you and send your fabric back!!


The great thing about the GO! cutter is it allows you to use those scraps that you have no idea what to do with. The sun in this quilt was made with a scrap piece of fabric no bigger than a 3 x 2 inch piece.

I've been waiting for you... You know who you are. I've know about you for a week now, yet you sit just 3 1/2 hours away. What will it take for you to show up. We've worked like mad in order for you to come to us, but yet you're still not here.

How I spent my friday...

Or working my butt off fueled by Dr. Pepper and Hot Tamales candy, the Fire version not the regular! My day off, or so I thought, spent all of last night working on quilts for the Lovebug Studios Accuquilt GO! giveaway and a computer.... How much of last night you ask.... I went to bed at 10am this morning, got back up at 1 pm and continued on my mission. I think I have heartburn....


Heres what I've completed today... 3 quilts... The top one goes to Project Linus the other 2 are going to Quilts For Kids.


And my good friend Sue from the Quirky Quilters donated 6 pillowcases to Conkerr Cancer in my name.


As a side note, these 6 pillowcases bring the total number of 'to be donated' pillowcases to 120 just from the Quirky Quilters of Atchison County Kansas. Thats impressive!!!

And I can't forget my Hibiscus Quilt Guild of South Florida friends.. Thanks again to Waynette & Kathy for these 3 that will be donated to Quilts For Kids.
