Yes ladies and gents... Tis I, the Flatout Quilter!! I'm back with progress! This is my 100th post.
This is my latest finished quilt... Delivered it to the owner this afternooon!!!
pardon the pic.. The wind was blowing 30 miles per hour!!!
Now the gripe...While digging up information on the upcoming Kansas City Shop Hop I found this blog you'll notice the start of the 3rd paragraph...Apparently only LADIES will be doing this hop.. I've come to the conclusion that the author can BITE ME!!! I know plenty of male quilters, belong to a bunch of male quilter groups, and know I'm not the only male quilter in the world. I'm tired of people thinking that quilting is just a "ladies only" activity... END GRIPE...
The give away... In honor (or is that horror?) of my 100th post I've giving away this..
One lucky winner will receive 2 charm packs of Civil War Homefront by Barbra Brackman for Moda plus 1 yard of coordinating fabric in the blue star pattern. Heres the catch... Leave a comment... thats all... no 'you have to tell your friends about this'. I want to say Thank You to YOU my faithful readers these past 100 posts. Well okay, if you'd like to scoot over to that other blog and tell the author what you think about her "ladies" reference go for it... I may throw in something extra!!!
Thanks again for following, and happy quilting or crafting, or arting or whatever you do!!!
Greg
Congrats on your 100th post Greg!! Sorry the Shop hop only allows Ladies.. Send them an email and tell them men should be allowed also. I know there's a large growing community of male quilters and they should be made aware. Did you read the recent article of quilting truckers in the Wall Street Journal??
ReplyDeleteI won your last giveaway, so no need to enter me this go around. Thanks and have a great week!!
Great giveaway! Please count me in!
ReplyDeleteI get so pissed off at the emails from fabric shops that start out "Ladies, ...." So I don't usually buy much from them.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile I am waiting for that password so I can say - "Thanks for letting us know that the pickle dish is sexist, you old broad!"
They are also SLOW at sending the password!
Ha Ha , you're SO funny! Because my nick-name is Sam, many people think I am male. I assure you, I am not! I am sure there are many, many male quilters that just don't make it known that they quilt. We have only ONE male quilter in our guild. We also only have ONE minority - which surprises me...........Gripes aside - always strive to be the square peg for that round hole - it keeps life interesting. I know all about being the sqaure peg...I am ususally the wierdo everywhere!
ReplyDeleteI love the quilt. Bold & graphic. That's your signature, yes?
Sam
Actually, I am thrilled to see male quilters out there...so I will go over and say something.
ReplyDeleteYour giveaway is wonderful and so is your quilt.
I went over there to offer my opinion and well...looks like she has offered an apology....if that is not enough, just let me know...will hop right over there again.
ReplyDeleteDitto what Barb just said, Edie McGinnis offered an apology, but.........didn't change the post. I am waiting for my registration email so I can put my two cents in also in support of artists like yourself and all the other male quilters/fabric artists. Good for you for standing up!
ReplyDeleteI'm heading over there now to speak my piece, too. Wonderful giveaway, Greg...and I have always admired Civil War fabrics but have none, so I'd be thrilled with this. Let me go now and visit that shop-hop blog gal.
ReplyDeleteI have added my two-cents' worth, also...and made the suggestion that she add a note at the END of her post to apologize instead of having her apology buried within the comments' section...where many may not see it as people often don't have time to READ the entire comments' section. GEESH...I thought we were getting beyond gender bias.....but I guess not!!!
ReplyDeleteGreg, think of it as her loss. I for one am embarrassed by such closed mindedness. Women want equality - they should give it. Besides the fun of such groups is the differences each quilter brings to the table. At least it is to me. You make wonderful quilts. Forget her! And congrats on 100!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat giveaway, and it's nice to see men quilting...
ReplyDeleteYou have a valid point. Stereotypical quilter is an overweight female (sorry ladies, but that is how a valid sterotype). On the other side of this, more and more men are pursuing the love of quilting and fibre-arts. We can all do our part to break down the stereotypical perception of quilters and fibre-artists. First step is to complain and challenge!
ReplyDeleteBTW..I love your giveaway! Yummy fabrics. And congratulations on your 100th! I look forward to reading many more.

ReplyDeleteHey, I think men make some of the coolest quilts (and have some of the coolest giveaways, too)! Thanks for the chance, but I suspect lightning won't strike twice for me. Congratulations on your 100th post!
ReplyDeleteI read a couple of men's quilting blogs...but this is my first visit to yours. Thanks for your giveaway, and I'd love to be entered. ....found you via jaybird quilts. Congratulations on your 100th post!
ReplyDeleteBorn and raised in Overland Park, now elsewhere, but enjoy seeing the Kansas References. Thanks for the opportunity to win the nice fabric
ReplyDeleteLove the latest quilt :) It looks like your comment had the blogger back-pedaling on her "ladies" comment. Way to go!! I love to see guys quilting along with us women, as well as standing up for it :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Greg for the giveaway, put my name in, please. Congrats on making it to 100, it has been awhile since your last post, were you counting up your posts? Just kiddin' I missed hearing from your 'manly' blog. . . .

ReplyDeleteAs for your gripe, the other blog has offered an apology (besides, "real men may quilt, but they don't hop!!" LOL!!)

ReplyDeleteSadia
Hi There!
ReplyDeleteDH and I are in the process of buying a Gammill Long Arm, and my HUBBY... a "male" will be doing the quilting. Hopefully as a successful business, might I add!
Don't give up the battle, my friend!
Rosa
Great giveaway...count me in..You are not having a good week are you? Well, it is pretty stupid to have anyone excluded from anything like that due to their sex. It will be their loss, as you are so talented.
